Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you how much I love books. Books, chocolate, and travel… my top three, not in any particular order. But, reading is my most treasured pastime, and has been since my childhood. There’s nothing better than losing yourself in your favourite story, amongst the characters, in their world… sigh. Books are my escape.
So, here’s what I’d like to do… I’m asking each of you to share your favourite book with me… give us the title and a short description about why it’s your favourite book. I will ask for submissions until Monday, March 19th, at which time I will randomly choose a response, and that person will be the winner of a $25 gift card to Chapters! Why not participate?
My Top 5 Reading List (no order of preference):
- A Prayer for Owen Meany, John Irving
- The Lorax, Dr. Seuss
- The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho
- The Humans, Matt Haig
- Prodigal Summer, Barbara Kingsolver
The Humans by Matt Haig, Published by Simon Schuster, 2013
Probably the best review I’ve read about The Humans compares Matt Haig’s writing style to that of brilliant British author, Douglas Adams. I couldn’t agree more!
Extra-terrestrial beings, math, humanity, and love. What a combination, yet, they work together! This is a book that I find impossible to summarize… part love story, part sci-fi, part drama, part comedy. The originality of this book is what is so captivating!
Praised by The New York Times as a “novelist of great seriousness and talent,” Matt Haig delivers an unlikely story about human nature and the joy found in the messiness of life on Earth. The Humans is a funny, compulsively readable tale that playfully and movingly explores the ultimate subject—ourselves.
And now it’s your turn… respond by sharing a brief description of your favourite book, and on Monday you could be the winner of a $25 gift card to Chapters!
